7 times out of 10 in a day i’m asked how is it that I manage to be a Mom, Work full time, Blog, manage 2 Youtube channels and still keep my sanity! Truthfully, sometimes I wonder as well :)!

I’ve spent most of my high school days drifting around without a clue whether I was going or coming. There was no order – only “organised” chaos. At that point in my life, I really thought I had it all figured out. I was convinced I had my stuff in order and that all was well. You can imagine how I feel now when I think back to those days….*I get small attacks*!

After high school, I opted to go to varsity…Well really that was a logical step after high school; I make it sound like I had a choice when in fact I didn’t :). Varsity was a bit challenging. My cage was rattled! My “organised” chaos that used to work so perfectly in high school did NOT work anymore! I was drowning slowly; and this was not even the second semester. Something had to change and it had to change fast. I had to come up with new ways to make sure that i’m on top of my game; and this time for real.¬†And so I started keeping a weekly planner and I’ve never looked back.

This has changed my life in ways that I couldn’t even imagine possible. It has not only turned me into an organised person but it has also helped me take charge of my life. I am a Mom, a Career woman, a Blogger, a Youtube, a Girlfriend, and so much more and yet I am still very productive. I get all my work done on time and I haven’t lost my mind just yet :).

Before we get into the *how exactly do I do this* part, I just want to mention that I am not at all an expert in time management. Everything i’m sharing here is what has been working for me and still does to date.

As working mom, I keep a weekly planner. This is literally a place where I write down everything and anything I want to accomplish for the week. I always keep my weekends open unless I have to attend an event or have meetings. I include my work responsibilities as well as my personal responsibilities. With this, I am able to handle appointments and meetings and actually get work done without breaking a sweat.

As a Vlogger and Blogger, I write down my ideas and brainstorm on my journal. I also try by all means to film videos and edit ahead of upload time as much as I possibly can. It’s very easy to assume that filming videos for Youtube is an easy task when infact it takes up a lot of time. It’s a very fun hobby to have but it needs dedication and effort. The same goes for Blogging! It needs attention. Unfortunately for me, i’m not one of those people that can grab a laptop write a post and have it publish in less than 30 minutes. I need time to work on my post, to edit them, proof read & spell check, and then collect the courage to actually publish it. No complaints, I actually love it.

As a mom, I go with the flow. It’s not an easy thing to try and keep a schedule of how and when I’ll play with my little one, I don’t even think this would be realistic. So I look for signs and cues from her. Luckily my daughter is very independent. There are days where all she wants is to play by herself while I watch/supervise and then of course there are days where she wants mommy to play with. Either way, I always make sure she comes first. Afterall, a happy child means less screaming, and less screaming means calm mommy, and calm mommy means happiness all around :).

To some all of this; here is in a nutshell how I am keeping my sanity:

  • Keep a weekly planner where I write down everything I need to accomplish for the week (this is for my professional life as well as my personal life)
  • Do as much as I can in advance (where applicable of course)
  • Brainstorm and write down ideas on paper (it’s so much easier to pick a topic from a pile rather than to try come up with one on the go.)
  • Most importantly I try to remember to take it easy.

All this has honestly helped me save my sanity while I juggle my busy life. But most importantly, it has helped me realise that I am also human and I need help. Every once a week I take a few hours off just for myself. It’s normally when little one is sleeping and the house is quiet. I run myself a hot bubble bath and I just unwind. It helps me really relax and get ready to face yet another week. I mention this to say, Always remember to be kind to yourself and ask for help when you need it, there really is no shame in that.

How do you keep organised as a mom?
